Big Maths and a Big Week

What a week!
Having spent a little time getting to know each other last week, the school year really began in earnest on Monday. We have shown that we can work well together and this week we have four fish for our aquarium!
We have been looking at addition in Maths, practising either partitioning or column addition and most of us are really good at it. We want to show you just how good in our homework, so ask us what we can do.
Our English challenge was to write a description of a monster, using it as an opportunity to show off our skills and boy, did we rise to the challenge! Mrs Sketchley was delighted to find that the children can use adjectives in a list, adverbs and similes. There were snappy sentences and connectives and the final piece from many was a joy to read.
On Tuesday there was an air of excitement in the class as it was our first trip to the pool in Normanton. Everyone had a great time and the first assessment was done ready to put us into groups according to our levels of confidence in the water.
In DT on Wednesday, we began to design Egyptian death masks as part of our Curse of the Egyptians topic. We have also done some map work and know exactly where Egypt is.
The greatest excitement came on Friday with our Big Maths launch day. We had to introduce Speedy Col to the rest of the school which was a great fit with our maths work. We made a collage and sang a song in a round. Compare Speedy Col to her picture. What do you think?
