Big Maths Day

Thursday 10 Sep 2015 23:00pm

Today was Big Maths Day at Sandal Magna and children throughout the school took part in lots of exciting maths activities. After a whole school assembly about Big Maths, the children in year One went outside to take part in lots of different maths counting activities. Later in the morning we decorated shirts and hung them onto a 'washing line'.  Each of us then put a number on our own shirt but they were all mixed up so we moved them around until they were in the correct order.  We also talked about Pim and some of us helped to decorate a picture of him.  Pim is one of the Big Maths characters.  He has three eyes, three hands, and three spots on one side of his body and four of each on the other side.  Pim teaches us that 3 + 4 always equals 7!  Pim has ten fingers on each hand so we quickly realised that if 3 + 4 =7 then 30 + 40 = 70. Some of us went even further and worked out that 300 + 400 = 700. We had a great day and we can't wait to start doing Big Maths everyday from next week.
