Hello  and welcome to our new Year Two page for 2018/2019.
The staff in Year Two this year will be Mrs Whittell, Mrs Azaam, Miss Dimmock and Mrs Skolas. What an exciting year we have ahead of us!
In Year Two, learning through exploring and being creative underpins all that we do and we adopt a 'cross curricular' approach to learning. Whenever possible, the children's learning will be based around the topic for each half term and  their reading, writing and maths skills will be applied in all subjects. The Year 2 team are excited about being part of your child’s learning journey and highly value the impact which a strong parent teacher partnership can have. Please drop in and see us informally any time after school, or if you require more time, feel free to make an appointment via the school office.

Our school day includes daily phonics, English and Mathematics lessons. and the children in Year 2 also have weekly Science, Topic and Art/ICT lessons. Throughout the term the children will bake in small groups and enjoy the goods which they have designed and made. Each half term we begin with an RE/ PHSE week which we then refer to and build upon throughout each day in school.

Please ensure your child has the correct uniform, PE kit and a water bottle each day for school, so that they are ready to learn.

We welcome you to join us each Friday at 8.45am for 'Reading Club', which  runs until 9am. DUring this time, please feel free to ask any questions about supporting your child's reading at home and how best to help them to make progress- we appreciate that many of us learned to read in a different way and are more than happy to help!

Introduction

Welcome to a new school year on the Year One blog page.

Our teaching team includes Miss Cranham, Mrs Dunphy, Mrs Karamet, Miss Dimmock and Mrs Skolas.

When the children first arrive in Year One, we strive to keep the changes to a minimum and adhere to the familiar routines of their previous Reception Class. This is because we understand that children learn best when they feel safe and secure, and thus they need time to settle in to their new classroom with their new teachers. Our timetable includes daily numeracy, literacy and phonics lessons. The children are encouraged to use ICT confidently and safely from an early age and they also enjoy lots of physical and creative experiences including PE, baking, music, art & DT. We encourage the children to learn through exciting and challenging activities with the addition of educational visits which provide memorable and worthwhile experiences.

We have high expectations of your child’s achievements so please help us maintain this by giving us your full support. This means regular reading with your child, encouraging and assisting them with any homework such as spellings.

On Friday mornings we will continue with the parent and child reading club which most of you will be familiar with.  We will continue with this in a similar way that involve reading with your child and helping them with a short follow up activity. The sessions will run from 8.45 until 9.05 and we do expect all parents, or a guardian, to attend. P.E. lessons in Year One are currently Tuesday Afternoon and Wednesday Afternoon, so please ensure your child has a P.E. kit in school at all times. Parents’ evenings are every term. We do ask you to support your child by attending as this allows us to discuss your child’s progress and the next steps they need to take. If you have any concerns about your child, educationally or otherwise please do not hesitate to pop along and see any of the Year One teaching staff at any time although the end of the school day is preferable.

Thank you for taking the time to read this introduction to our blog. It will be updated regularly so please come and have a look again to view photographs and read about the many exciting things that your child is experiencing in Year One.

Welcome to the Year 3 page!

Our Year 3 teaching team are Mr Carver, Miss Gall, Mrs Swailes and Mrs Skolas. We work very hard to make our classroom a stimulating environment for every child in our class. Together, we ensure that all the children in Year 3 enjoy a full and exciting curriculum. Mr Dixon will teach your child weekly computing lessons and Mrs Clifton will bake with each child each half term. You will receive a letter and a request for £1 when it is your child's turn to bake.

Each Thursday afternoon, the class will have their weekly P.E lesson. Please ensure that your child has the full and correct kit in school at all times. Homework tasks will be given on a half termly basis and each child must complete one task per week.  Additional English and maths homework may also be set.If your child has any questions about their homework, please ensure they speak to Mr Carver or Miss Gall. Reading is an extremely important part of our curriculum. Please try and read with your child as often as possible and write a short comment in their reading record. This will help us to help them progress through our reading scheme.

We are extremely committed to helping your child develop in our class, and we offer all children the chance to grow both academically and spiritually. All of our team look forward to working with them as they continue their development through our school. Welcome to the Year 4 page.

Our teaching team are Mrs. Sketchley, Mrs. Heaton, Mr. Dixon, Miss Corbett and Mrs. Clifton. Our aim is to make your learning interesting, engaging and stimulating.   When you come to school with a smile on your face and work hard, you will have a lot of fun.  Just be the best you can be!
In Year 4, you will go swimming in Normanton every Tuesday afternoon. You will need a swimming costume or trunks (not shorts) and a towel.  If you have any questions about this, please see Mrs. Sketchley. It’s a fabulous afternoon and everyone has a lot of fun.  The adults who go with you look forward to it too!

Each Friday afternoon, we will have PE. When the weather is good, we will go outside.  Please make sure you have the correct clothes, most importantly trainers and a different top and shorts or tracksuit bottoms.  More information can be found on the Dress Code page and in the school prospectus.

Homework is set for each half term and you should bring one of the completed tasks back to school each Tuesday.  If there is a problem, it is your responsibility to see Mrs. Sketchley before the end of the day on Tuesday as everyone is expected to hand in their homework.  Spellings will be given to you on a Friday and tested the following Friday.  We will practise them during the week.

We will also have a focus on learning our times tables.  By the end of year 4, you should know all of them to 12 x 12.  To help you do this, we will talk about where you are now and set you a challenge to get even better.  Each week, after practice in school and at home, you will try to beat your best score.  There will be rewards for the children who move up a step on our times table ladder.  Will you be one of the children who does this next week?

Thank you for visiting our page.  If you have any questions, please come and have a chat with one of the team at the end of the day.

Welcome to Year 5!

The staff in Year 5 are Mrs Ward-Fox, Mrs Ward and Mrs Skolas. We aim to create a stimulating learning environment that is safe, happy, exciting and challenging, where each pupil is encouraged to achieve their full potential.

To continue our high expectations, please help ensure your child completes and returns any homework they are given each week. Children are given homework to help them practice skills they've learnt in class. If there are any issues regarding homework or your child finds a particular piece of homework challenging, then please do not hesitate to come and speak to us.

In order to help improve your child’s reading skills, increase their vocabulary and develop their comprehension skills, we also ask that you listen to your child read, ask them questions to ensure they have understood what they have read as well as sign their reading record book.

The children have a times table sheet in their homework book, it is very helpful for their learning if they practice their times tables so that they know the answers quickly.

Children should come to school each day with a water bottle and a bag to carry their reading book, any homework, letters and their PE kit to and from school in.  Year 5 have P.E. lessons every Monday afternoon.

Thank you for visiting our Year 5 Blog Page. Please revisit us during the school year to find out what exciting learning has taken place in our class.
